Your Worth Is Not Decided By Your Social Media Popularity
Your worth, your value, the quality of who you are as a human being is not decided by your social media popularity.
You decide your worth. You have to know and believe, in the depth of your soul that you are valuable. You are alive and breathing and that alone gives you immeasurable worth.
You are a soul, conscious, living, breathing, and in an amazing, mobile, and complex container- your body! Some would call it a temple that houses your soul.
There are scientists and engineers who are trying to create and mimic what you already have, a mind that can think for itself, and an incredible thermodynamic body that allows you all of the senses and does not have to be plugged in!
You are of insane value and worth because you are here, you are alive.
I’m making this point because I’m trying to give some perspective to what I see happening in our current social media culture.
Adults and children alike are having their lives shattered, to the point of severe depression and suicide by their perceived social media worth. How many followers, how many likes, how many good comments, how many negative comments, who unfollowed me, what am I missing out on.
People are measuring their self-worth by their social media popularity and that’s the wrong measure.
The truth is just like with everything in life, we’re going to have a natural inclination to be better at some things than others and social media is no different. Some people are really good at social media, they take great pictures, are wonderful wordsmiths, study algorithms, are consistent, (basically go to a lot of effort), hire other people to manage their social media, and they end up with beautiful feeds and lots of followers.
Here’s the thing, these big beautiful accounts deal with people unfollowing them, cyberbullying, and negative comments too.
The point is that you decide your worth. Not how popular your social media accounts are, not some stranger who does not know you but leaves negative and or bullying comments on your social media, not your ex, not your friends, not your family. You!
And I believe with my whole heart that you are of immeasurable worth!
Let’s stop this social media value system, which is epidemic, where it is. Value your life because you are alive and unique. There is no one else on earth like you, which makes you priceless.
Go out and live your life, use your incredible mind, your creativity, and your incomprehensibly amazing body to travel your life’s journey. Regardless of who likes, dislikes, or unfollows, no matter the social media numbers, do not let those be the standards by which you value yourself.
With warmth,
Sarah Voiles
